Not a craft but something else i love to do

i enjoy many crafts, knitting crocheting, quilting etc. but my real creative love is photography… so i have decided to throw some of my pictures and picture taking excursions here, partly to have more post subjects since my crafting has slowed way down and to share more of my work with friends who aren’t on facebook (yes some people have resisted the draw) :)

so to begin!
Saturday Feb 18th a trip to the Safari Park

And it was done…

Tiny little stockings continue… Finally

So finally I am getting some more done on the stocking.   The Kitchener stitch used to finish the toe is a challenge and i didn’t really ‘get it’ until I was almost done so the toe looks ok but it doesn’t look as neat as it should…   I think I have it now though and since it is also used to finish the heel I really hope I have it right. :)

Tiny little stockings

it has been awhile!  but i am back on the crafting bus :)  last night i went to an awesome class for Mini Christmas Stockings.. SO CUTE!  here is the top cuff and the leg of the sock so far.   another 6 or so rows and it will be time for the heel.  once i get that far, i go back to knit night for more direction :)   it is a challenge to work on such small needles, but it is a lot of fun once you get going :)  the toe and heel will be the red/white/green and the rest of the foot will be the red.

i will keep you updated!

March is National Craft Month! Bringing the past to the present! « Oldentimes’s Blog.

a very nice post by my mom honor some of the crafters she knows and many i know as well.

i will include her in this, as she has always encouraged me in my crafting endevours (and all other endevours as well, even those that seemed doom and indeed were doomed to fail) :)

so my Mom whos quilts cover my lap and crocheted slippers cover my feet :)

Amigurumi night!

So…. Monday night was Amigurumi night… we gathered at Michelle’s house now that JaziCrafts has closed its doors. (don’t worry www.jazicrafts.com is still there)

we were working on Hedgehog part 2 having completed, well ok, mostly completed the homework assignment of ear & arm making :)

so there we were… talking about politics and current events and other very important things, when someone mentions that we should have taken pictures of the before hedgehog and the after hedgehog… and it just went down hill from there…

so with no further adieu, feast your eyes on the first public advertisement for our NEW business venture….

Feeling left out because you have no fur?

all the other hedgehogs mock you because you don't have a perfect coif?

there is hope for everyone!

don't take their mockery any longer!

you will see improvement practically overnight!

take it from me, I'm not just a client.......

I'M THE PRESIDENT!

WE CAN HELP YOU!

toy or collectors item :P you decide

so i stopped in across the street at an estate sale the other morning.. and my eyes quickly found this…

a lovely old singer

i was told by the guy running the sale that it works, and for $20 i was more than willing to take that chance.

a little googling and i now know, it is a Singer Slant-o-Matic Special (Designed for modern, functional and decorative sewing)  it appears to have been manufactured in the early 60s

.. but whatever, i think it is absolutely adorable.  i just plugged it in and lo and behold the needle did just what a sewing machine needle should… it moved up and down!

it uses something called fashion discs which did not come with the machine, but appear to be available for a modest amount on various websites, and i got a copy of the manual online as well (who loves the internet? i love the internet, i do, i do, i dooooo)

and how can you go wrong with this

the checkerboard hat

so finally after a few false starts and some creative swearing and throwing things, the checkerboard hat finally this evening started to look as if there would be some checkerboard happening…. i started the row for the color change for the blocks to start taking shape, SO exciting!

the top of the hat as it starts coming together.

a close up of the switch..

rotary cutters ARE dangerous and i made 2 quilt blocks

so i have this quilt i have been planning to make for 6 months or so… but just haven’t had the gumption to get the craft room straightened out and get started on it…

Enter Jazi Crafts and the Thursday night Sewing D!  i whipped up 2 - 9 patch blocks lickety split and then sat around making and listening to inappropriate jokes/comments and having a great time.  pictures will be forthcoming, but since it is a suprise-ish quilt i don’t want to give it away too early.  i still have a bunch of blocks to make and then get it all put together for quilting, but we are going to have another sewing night next week so perhaps i will get the fabric cut ahead of time for some power sewing.

and always, ALWAYS close the cover of your rotary cutter even if you are just quickly rearranging things on your table, or some other innocent thing, not really involving rotary cutters at all.. they WILL cut you and you WILL bleed a profuse amount… i am fine, it was a shallow cut, but it was so quick i didn’t even realize until the blood started.. so that is my safety report for the day

(0 days with no accidents)
